Legg Mason Classic-Somdev shocked Marin Cilic

Somdev Dewarman of India shocked the world no 15 Marin Cilic of Croatia in Legg Mason Classic tennis at Washington here on Tuesday. It is one of the greatest victories for Somdev in tennis career as he ranked only 153rd in the world. He won the Croatian by 5-7, 4-6 for entering third round of the tournament. During Jan of this year, Cilic blocked the title for Somdev at Chennai open in his very first home series. After the match Somdev told media, “It’s definitely one biggest win of my career. He’s a great player. He’s in top 15 already and on his way to the top 10. All along I played well”. He added, “My game plan was to compete as hard as possible and let the chips fall where they will. I took my chances very well. I am proud of the result”. “It wasn’t my first tour final tonight so I was not as nervous going out. But there was no revenge after my loss to him in Chennai… no ill feelings. We were just two competitors today. I have put in a lot of work. I’m doing things the right way.” When he was questioned about Andy,”Andy who” joked by Somdev. He added,” I’m aware of where I am but I have to take it one match at a time”.


Sania Mirza clinches the ITF Lexington challenger title

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza wins the ITF Lexington Challenger trophy on Monday by beating the top seeded French star Julie Coin by 7- 6 (7-5),6-4. By winning the title she gained three positions and moved to the rank of 80th position from 83rdin the world ranking. But at the same time in doubles, she falled ten positions ranking 49th in the ATP rank. In the match, Sania had a wonderful start as she won the very first serve of the French star Julie and taking a lead of 2-0 in the beginning. But Julie bounces back greatly as she lead the game by 5-3 against Sania. But Sania manages the pressure, as she got back the two serves in a row leading to the tie break. During the tie break, at first French star hand was at a lead by 5-2 but later Sania won four points in a row and sealed the first set. Julie led the second set by 2-1 at the very beginning but later Sania changed the game strategy while taking a lead of 5-3. Sania served for winning the match, but she lost that game to Julie. However Sania won the Julie’s next game for clinching $50000 IFT challenger title. This was only a second event for sania mirza in IFT challenger trophy after 2003.

A Tennis Legend: Pete Sampras

A tennis legend, Pete Sampras was born on 12-jul-1971 at Washington D.C. Named as “Pistol Pete” in the tennis world, is now leading his life in Los Angeles, California. Starting his career in 1988, he won 14 grand slams making a record along with Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver. Though he won 14 grand slams, he can’t make a mark in the Rolando Gaross but had a milestone for being world no 1 for six consecutive years in the ATP ranking. Currently Federer is after him to overtake his record. He was named into Tennis Hall of Fame in the year 2007. He won his first career title US open in the year 1990 in a long battle match against Andre Agassi. After then, he got his first Wimbledon title in the year 1993 followed by his 2nd US open title in the same year. Then he added three US open, two Australian open and six Wimbledon titles until his retirement to his career crown. About his personal, he married an actress named Bridgette Wilson in the year September 2000 and now they have a two loveable son’s named Christian Charles first and Ryan Nicolas. Now days, he participate only in exhibition matches and few charity matches.
