LA Tennis open - Somdev Dewarman crushed out in the first round

LA Tennis Open started on Tuesday with an unexpected result of defeat of 7th seeded Benjamin Becker of German against American Jofn Ishner with points 7-6,7-6 though both played really tough game while Ishner break the points during the tie break. In the another match, India’s rising tennis star Somdev Dewarman lost the very first match against the 5th rank holder Igor Kunitsyn of Russia with 5-7,2-6 where the match lost for nearly two hours . During the first set, somdev broke the Russian Igor serve twice but lost his serve thrice in the same set. And in second set, it was one sided game where Igor made a dazzingling effort for closing the set. Somdev moved 12 rankings up though he loses the match at the end. In other matches, 8th seeded Marat Safin of Russia found earlier difficulties in winning the game against Robby Ginepri of America 6-3,3-6,4-6. Latvian Ernests crushed Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun by 5-7,2-6and Marcos Baghdatis bt Frank Dancevic of Canada by 7-6,6-3. 7th rank Andreas Seppi bt Juan Ignacio of Argentina by 4-6,6-2,3-6 and Simone Bolleli of Italy takes two and half an hour to beat Ruben Ramirez of spanish by 6-7,6-3,0-6 where he wins the final set with no trouble.


Legg Mason Classic-Somdev shocked Marin Cilic

Somdev Dewarman of India shocked the world no 15 Marin Cilic of Croatia in Legg Mason Classic tennis at Washington here on Tuesday. It is one of the greatest victories for Somdev in tennis career as he ranked only 153rd in the world. He won the Croatian by 5-7, 4-6 for entering third round of the tournament. During Jan of this year, Cilic blocked the title for Somdev at Chennai open in his very first home series. After the match Somdev told media, “It’s definitely one biggest win of my career. He’s a great player. He’s in top 15 already and on his way to the top 10. All along I played well”. He added, “My game plan was to compete as hard as possible and let the chips fall where they will. I took my chances very well. I am proud of the result”. “It wasn’t my first tour final tonight so I was not as nervous going out. But there was no revenge after my loss to him in Chennai… no ill feelings. We were just two competitors today. I have put in a lot of work. I’m doing things the right way.” When he was questioned about Andy,”Andy who” joked by Somdev. He added,” I’m aware of where I am but I have to take it one match at a time”.


Sania Mirza clinches the ITF Lexington challenger title

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza wins the ITF Lexington Challenger trophy on Monday by beating the top seeded French star Julie Coin by 7- 6 (7-5),6-4. By winning the title she gained three positions and moved to the rank of 80th position from 83rdin the world ranking. But at the same time in doubles, she falled ten positions ranking 49th in the ATP rank. In the match, Sania had a wonderful start as she won the very first serve of the French star Julie and taking a lead of 2-0 in the beginning. But Julie bounces back greatly as she lead the game by 5-3 against Sania. But Sania manages the pressure, as she got back the two serves in a row leading to the tie break. During the tie break, at first French star hand was at a lead by 5-2 but later Sania won four points in a row and sealed the first set. Julie led the second set by 2-1 at the very beginning but later Sania changed the game strategy while taking a lead of 5-3. Sania served for winning the match, but she lost that game to Julie. However Sania won the Julie’s next game for clinching $50000 IFT challenger title. This was only a second event for sania mirza in IFT challenger trophy after 2003.
